The Sun – Life Force Or Deadly Enemy?

Imagine if you can what it would be like without the sun. A dark, cold, planet – totally devoid of life. Think about it!

If it were somehow possible to live here, still this body could not survive very long without the sun because we are one giant “photocell”, dependent on light for the life force we need to energize our 75 trillion cells.

The sun has been viewed through the ages as prime to life. Its light was believed to heal the body and in many cultures it was worshipped. In Greek literature it was Helios, the Sun God. Much later the sun worship had spread to Europe where those who had the money could afford to stay at retreats for the healing of their bodies-by the sun.1

About the same time in the United States, Edgar Cayce, psychic and healer, taught his arthritic ridden clients to dig themselves into the hot sand on the shores of the Atlantic where his clinic was located. It was a part of his system of healing the body, particularly the joints. He taught that the healing power of the silica in the sand would be transferred by the sun into their bodies. He must have intuited correctly because it worked!

Closer to home, in Arizona, sick people from across the nation came to bake health back into their tubercular bodies on the side of a mountain in North Phoenix. It was a city of tents, called Sunnyslope. Forever the sun has shared its healing light with the people of the planet, paid for by some but free to all.

Why then this unreasonable fear of the sun, which has stalked us for the past quarter of a century? Through eons past, man has spent long hours living and working under the sun’s intense rays, from primitives to the world’s farmers and outdoor sports enthusiasts, with nothing but praise for the golden orb. Their abundant health and vitality was proof enough that the sun was a friend.

So what went wrong? Somewhere along the line, rough dark spots and moles began appearing on ears, foreheads, backs, arms, and noses. And the word was out – “cancer”, a strange and dreaded disease that none of us knew much about. We begged our teenage daughter not to lie out in the heat of the day without suntan lotion (sunblock had not yet been invented). Instead she spritzed with water to keep cool. Kris always sported an enviable tan and today, a busy mother of five children, four of whom are teenagers, she is vibrantly healthy.

Why don’t all who are over-exposed to the sun’s rays get cancer? I finally found the answer in an old book of my mother’s on juicing. It stated that the sun does not cause cancer but rather, if there is cancer in the body, the sun will draw it to the surface. So those with skin cancer rarely had it in any other place in their bodies. This was beginning to make sense to me. But what about the very dangerous melanomas, the deeply rooted, widespread cancers? My immediate intuitive thought was that these must be the more serious cases, only a portion of which could be brought to the surface. An all-wise and all-loving Creator gave us the sun to help heal our bodies with its close-to-magical powers. But common sense tells that us anything to excess can be damaging to one’s health including food.

Life-Force Source- the Sun

Life force is known in other cultures as “prana” or “chi/qi” a freeflow of invisible vital energy. This subtle energy so essential to good health is now supported by discoveries in the field of quantum physics.

There are actually two sources of life force, one you may never have heard of, the axiatonal lines. A simplified explanation will suffice here. The human body is spanned by a grid of meridians connected with vibratory lines from resonating star systems. If that sounds like quantum physics, it is! Take away either one, the sun or axiatonal lines and our life force gradually diminishes and the body wastes away with diseases like multiple sclerosis and muscular dystrophy.2 It is just a matter of time before cellular energy is diminished. As the life force, which is stored in our trillions of cells, is depleted so is our health, and life itself.

Sunshine could easily be called the “new medicine” and in fact has been capably researched as such by Dr. Jacob Lieberman, an optometrist whose interest in healthy eyes led him to write a book on light as medicine. He lists many of the healing aspects of sunshine, which may surprise you.3

1. Depression – Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.) is rampant in places where there are more dark and dreary days than sunny ones

2. Killers of microbes and mold

3. Healthy Pineal Gland for regulating body processes (resting heart rate, blood pressure, energy, stress tolerance)

4. Synthesizes Vitamin D for strong bones

5. Weight Balancing through stimulating the thyroid

6. Repairs the skin

7. Normalizes Hormones for both male and female

8. Regulates for sleep and moods

Do you begin to get the same feeling I am? How many of our modern diseases may be caused by lack of sunlight? At this point, during a lecture, someone in the audience asked if we could have been caught up in a disinformation campaign. Do you remember being bombarded with frightening facts about cholesterol and the need for low-fat diets and no eggs? Now, it is all about low-carbs and cholesterol. How about hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and the lack of “proper calcium” that is supposed to cause your bones to become brittle and break, the osteoporosis scare?

And, of course, the sun-cancer connection. All disinformation? Now that is really scary. They must not have heard of the research done in England and New Zealand that found twice as much cancer in office workers who were under fluorescent lights every day as those who worked outside!

Dr. Lieberman suggests that an hour or more of sunlight each day would prevent symptoms of mal-illumination. You will recognize more modern day ailments in his list: depression, PMS, insomnia, migraine headaches, carb-cravings and even tuberculosis, which is on the up-rise.

Regaining Life Force

The question is often asked, “are about other ways to bring life force into the body besides actual exposure to sunlight. Yes, we can capture the powerful healing qualities of the sun by eating raw plant foods, “live” foods grown in the sun if (and that is a big “if”) they have been grown in mineral-rich soil, from non-hybrid seeds and are not irradiated for longer shelf-life.

The minerals are used by the plants to hold life force energy. No minerals (because of stripped soils), not much chance of all that pretty produce in the markets of America having much Life Force at all – organic included. Any vital life still left in plant foods can be nullified by irradiation used for longer shelf life. Hybrid produce including seedless varieties, are life-less imitations of once-real food. Intuited checking unfortunately confirms the truth of these statements.

Pure water in a clear glass jar set out in the sun for an hour will collect and hold the sun’s life force. Drink it throughout during that day. However your best bet is still to get yourself out in the sun for some time everyday using your good common sense (intuition) to know when and how long. This body is uniquely designed to use the healing power of sunlight to draw life-force into the body. According to John Ott, a banker turned scientist, Dr. Ott became Director of the Environmental Health and Light Research institute in Sarasota, Florida and author of the book Health and light . His research proved how important the sun that is so often maligned and misunderstood, is to the health of the human system.4

o Skin, which gradually darkens to shut down the amount of light absorbed. Sunblocks abort the entry of life force and are can be toxic as well.

o Hair, which when it has a healthy level of silica, draws life force into the body. Most commercial hair dyes and processes stop this process, as does head wear.

o Eyes receive sunlight directly and are responsible for improvement of overall health including metabolic activity, depression, hyperactivity, lengthened age span and more!

o Pineal gland, the body’s “light meter” is in the brain at a point between the eyebrows. It reacts to light received through the eyes (blocked by glasses/sunglasses) to send “hormone messages” to help the body adjust to its environment, prevents premature puberty and the development of sex functions, orchestrate circadian rhythms for normal sleep patterns and ameliorates depression.

If any of this makes sense then we must ask ourselves if once again we have been taken in by another disinformation campaign. What is the possibility that mal-illumination might be complacent in America’s epidemic of illness? Your God-given intuition will always help you make wise decisions about your health – about your life. Your natural intuition will always be there to help you when you find yourself questioning someone or something. You won’t make too many mistakes if you go with your gut feeling, your knowing without “knowing.”

David Rainoshek, Creator of Juice Feasting – Share His Journey to Health and a Raw Food Diet

Kevin: Welcome everyone here, I am with David Rainoshek and he’s going to tell you a little bit about himself. David, welcome.

David: Thanks a lot, it’s so great to be here.

Kevin: I’m so thrilled about this. What we’re going to talk about today, we’re going to talk about juice feasting, we’re going to talk about all the things that you’ve done. But first I just want to give everyone an idea, why don’t you tell me a little bit about where you came from and how you are, what you’re doing now.

David: Yeah, I grew up in the city of Houston, so I contributed to the some of the pollution that was there and ate the standard American diet, growing up, and played a lot sports. When I was in middle school I got pretty sick and got acid reflux, but I didn’t know it. I just thought I was a hungry boy. So I just kept eating food. And kept on playing state- ranked tennis all the way through high school and walked the Appalachian trail in 1999 shortly after college. And when I came back my cholesterol level was 270 and out on the trail you’re walking like 8, 10, 12 hours a day, 45 pounds on your back through the mountains, 15-20 miles and you come into town, you eat whatever you want and so it was ice cream, pizza, subway sandwiches, you name it. When I came back I was still at the weight that I was when I left, but my internal environment was completely different. And three weeks after the trail, I crashed. I mean absolutely crashed. And it felt like I was having a heart attack.

For the next three years I was really sick. I tried to figure out what was going on and I couldn’t figure it out. It was like, “I eat vegetarian, I eat an organic vegetarian diet. I should be doing OK.” And I wasn’t OK, I was a basket case. I had pain in my chest and I had pain in my shoulders and I could hardly move around. I spent about 50,000 bucks on medical bills and long story short I met a guy who I told about my symptoms and he said, “You need to eat raw food.” And I said, “OK, I’ll do anything.”

So the next morning I got up and I had squash and zucchini and some carrots for breakfast. And I ate that, and after about three weeks I felt better, all my symptoms were gone, after $50,000 in I applied to Gabriel Cousens’ Master’s program in Live Food Nutrition and I did that and the rest is history. We’re going to talk about all that today.

Kevin: When you went in and you had those carrots and you had the zucchini for breakfast, had you been doing that before or was this a new thing for you?

David: No, I had not been having breakfast for years, because my stomach hurt so bad in the morning. I mean, that was my biggest symptom, was that I had acid reflux disease, so my stomach hurt so bad I pretty much had to wait in the morning until I was hungry and then I could eat. So when I got up that morning and I had that I said, “This is an odd experience, I’m actually having breakfast.” And it took about a week or so, and the agitation that I felt every morning of my life, went. And that was because I was dehydrated. The diet I was eating was toxic and it was dehydrating and making me feel bad. I’m a generally a really happy guy, so waking up agitated every morning since I was about five or six years old, was really hard on me growing up and I kind of had to keep it to myself. As I got older I said, “Well, I just can’t talk to anybody then. I just need to kind of have my orange juice and wait, and then all of a sudden I’ll start to feel better.” And waking up and feeling happy and joyous for the first time in all those years, was amazing. I thought, “Well, this can’t continue.” And the next morning it happened, and the next morning and I’ve never woken up agitated again. So, raw food really turned things around for me.

Kevin: What made you go to get the cholesterol test?

David: Well, I was feeling really bad, so I had all my blood work done. I had loads of blood work.. I mean I had 150 different ways, I had my blood looked at, stool samples, x-rays, MRI’s, you name it. I mean I really went through the gamut trying to figure out what was going on with my body. I just didn’t really have a holistic perspective on my health yet.

Kevin: Right.

David: And so I thought, well my shoulders hurt so maybe it’s my broken clavicle from my mountain bike accident in college. So they did an MRI there and did an unnecessary surgery and found that it healed up just fine. And then I couldn’t identify the difference between my stomach and intestinal tract and my bowel. I didn’t even have that kind of self knowledge yet. I mean, unbelievable. But I didn’t. And a lot of us don’t until we really start to look at our food choices and start to see how everything that we eat affects out body. So, it took me getting to the part of the spectrum of diet where you have live foods, for me to start to key in to all of that.

Kevin: Right. And when you took that approach, when you went to get the blood test, did you start to, I mean, did you go to a holistic practitioner, or did you just go to a doctor and say, “I need blood work?”

David: Yeah, I went to a place in Scottsdale, Arizona, which is definitely more holistic. And they had a compounding pharmacy there, so they could make very specific supplements for you and things like that. And they brought me more strongly into a vegetarian paradigm, which is OK. And we could talk about the spectrum of diet if you want, the spectrum of diet goes from fast-food, to Standard American, to vegetarian…no, fast-food, Standard American, whole foods, vegetarian, vegan, and then raw vegan. Plant-based is what we are calling this a lot now. And so depending on what your illness is, that will determine how far up the spectrum of diet you will need to go to heal that situation. So, for me, having had acid reflux since I was in middle school, and all the activity that I did, and all the meat that I ate when I was in high school, the place in my health that I got to required that I move beyond vegetarian to a raw vegan diet to heal the issues that I had.

Kevin: So let’s talk about that paradigm that you talked about. So Standard American Diet is first, or fast- food Standard American Diet, and then on the other side you have the raw vegan. What is the goal,? I mean, is the goal, if it’s on a paradigm like that is the goal 100% raw vegan or is it somewhere along the line or is it just optimal health? What’s the deal?

David: Yeah, the goal is health. And your health is going to improve as you move up the spectrum of diet. And there’s a lot of factors that play in, but one thing that is really important to understand, and I didn’t really fully get this until just a few months ago, is that the spectrum of diet actually is a stages progression. And if you’re in a westernized society and you’ve been exposed to a Standard American Diet, or a fast-food diet, you’re kind of down there at that part of the spectrum of diet. It’s going to take a while for you to move back up.

Now, I’ve been reading a lot of Ken Wilbur, so those of you out there who know who Ken Wilbur is, Ken talks a lot about stages-progressions. But, if you’re at a lower stage, you can get a peak experience of a higher stage. Meaning a peak experience, or a kind of a peak experience of it. But you’re still going to have to go back down, and actually recapture those earlier stages and make sure that you’ve squarely centered on them, experienced it, gotten the benefits, gotten tired of it and then moved on to the next place when you’re physically and emotionally ready for it.

So, I see that definitely in my life. I was definitely a fast-food and Standard American, more a Standard American than anything. And then I moved into whole foods when I got into college. Then, “Maybe I’m getting screwed here, I’m not really getting everything out of that white pasta that I thought I was getting, or that candy bar or whatever. So I need whole foods and I really don’t want pesticides in my food anymore.” So I moved into organic. After I squarely hit organic whole foods then I moved into vegetarian. “OK, maybe I don’t want meat any more, maybe I don’t want to damage the environment. I see what that’s doing to my health, I really don’t want that. I see where that’s going. I don’t want to go down that road.” So, vegetarian. And then you realize, “OK, I’ve kind of gotten the benefits of not eating meat anymore, but that dairy, and the soy and the wheat aren’t really helping so much, so I’m going to have to limit those things.” And so you move up to vegan. And when you squarely hit on vegan, and you’ve realized all those benefits, you’re like, “You know I’m cooking all my food, and the Max Planck Institute says I’m destroying half of my protein and a lot of the phyto-nutrients, dehydrating my food and all kinds of things by cooking it. That doesn’t sound so good, I think I want better than that. I want more nutrients in my food. I want to eat less food and get more out of it.” And so you move up to raw vegan.

Jameth Sheridan and I were talking about this the other day. And Jameth is the head of Health Force Nutritionals that makes Vitamineral Green. And Jameth and I were talking about the spectrum of diet because I put in a few chapters for a book we’re doing for the International Living Food Summit. And he was saying, “It’s really important to understand the importance of vegan, because if you don’t capture vegan right before you move up to raw foods, if you fall off raw foods you’re falling way back to Standard American.” So you really need to know how to access those really healthy whole foods, vegan, whole foods vegan cuisine, and if you don’t know how to do that, you’re going to fall off pretty badly. And when you fall back from raw foods into pizza and candy bars and white pasta and stuff like that, you’re really going to feel it. And that’s an education too, and that’s fine, but it’s creating more suffering than is really necessary, I think.

A Visionary Approach To Health

With all of the singular focused health companies out there today, it is challenging to find a totally different approach to the health market. When most people think about health, they think about eating habits, food choices, and exercise, but rarely think about the idea of total health, including environmental health. Knowing that we are exposed to multiple environmental health risks daily, I discovered a unique approach to use as the foundation for transforming my health, forcing me to think differently. It is a concept based on the fact that we are what we absorb, not necessarily, what we eat.

Here are three areas to consider in your total health transformation:

1. What you absorb through your lungs. The fact is, indoor air pollution is a bigger problem than pollution outside. Since most people spend about 90% of their time indoors, most likely you are surrounding yourself and absorbing pollutants on a daily basis through your lungs. The list of indoor pollutants is rather expansive due to various building materials used in home construction, cleaning chemicals, air fresheners, not to mention the many germs and bacteria we take home with us each day. Since this problem affects the majority of our population, it demands a solution, in this case being a quality air purifier. Not just any off the store shelf air cleaner will do. In selecting a product, you want a technology designed to eliminate pollutants at their source, or technology also known as active technology, which is filter-less. With allergies and asthma being a common condition today, having a quality air purifier can help to relieve the symptoms. Not only do you want a product that can remove particulate, but having a technology to address odors, germs and bacteria is taking clean air to a whole new level.

2. Your drinking water. For optimal health, a person should be consuming at least half of their body weight in ounces per day of good quality water. Far too many people are walking around today with chronic dehydration without even knowing it. By the time you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated. Many illnesses and chronic conditions can be contributed to not drinking enough water. There have been studies revealing that many weight issues could be solved if people were drinking enough water. Is the amount of water the real solution, or could there be more to it? Since not all water sources are good for you, I recommend an ionized alkaline water technology. This type of technology provides exceptional drinking water with better health benefits than straight tap water, right at your tap. The benefits of an ionized alkaline water system are: antioxidant properties, super hydrating for better absorption at cellular level, and adjustable pH for higher alkalinity. Since most people are consuming a highly acidic diet, higher alkaline drinking water is a great way to combat not only the acid build up in our body, but’s it’s also a great solution for the oxidative stress on our bodies daily.

3. Nutrition and weight management. Why supplement you ask? First of all, the modern diet simply doesn’t provide for much in terms of nutrient rich foods. For those that think they are consuming all the right foods, reality is, the growing process, pesticides, and the transit timing all deplete the nutritional value. Even cooking depletes valuable nutrients from our foods. Vitamin and mineral deficiencies make us more prone to infections, illnesses, disease and obesity. Weight management requires a healthy menu plan, quality supplementing, as well as exercising regularly. When selecting a nutrition support line, look for a company that has a health system including nutraceuticals, weight management, as well as support for weekly meal plan and exercise. Although there are many options available, my selection contains products that have a unique enzyme nutrient delivery system for guaranteed absorption at cellular level. The supplements are derived from whole food sources, which works for the most natural body response. Because again, in understanding we are what we absorb, there’s no sense in swallowing a vitamin when you don’t know what you are actually absorbing.

With good health being on the minds of so many, we need to realize that our health cannot be measured by only our diet or the amount of time spent at the gym. We need to consider all aspects of our health. Change your thinking by adopting a broad view of health. We need to learn, and to teach people that good health or poor health is related to what we absorb from the outside in terms of our environment, and how we take care of the inside, with our water, food choices and nutrition.

Mental Health Maintenance Is Made Simple

Your mental health is often drastically improved when you use the techniques Dr. Kuhn teaches in this article. When you are able to experience this improvement, your relationships blossom, career paths open, and people find you attractive and accessible. You deserve to have fun and joy in your life – and Cliff Kuhn, M.D. will help you do that.

In the classic Frank Capra film, It’s a Wonderful Life, George Bailey’s mental health is overwhelmed by the difficulties of his life and he wishes he’d never been born. George’s guardian angel grants his wish and takes him to a grim reality as it would’ve been without him. George feels nothing when he reaches into his coat pocket to retrieve the flower his daughter, Zuzu, placed there – and that’s when George knows that his wish has come true…he’s never been born.

Wishing she had never been born, Roberta became my patient, seeking desperately to improve her mental health. Like the fictional George Bailey character, Roberta’s depression and anxiety had grown so strong as to threaten her ability to lead any semblance of a normal life. Fortunately for Roberta, she soon discovered exactly why the natural medicine of humor is one of the most powerful adjunctive treatments for improving mental health, because humor literally pours water on the fire of depression and anxiety.

Roberta is not alone. As many as 35% of all Americans suffer from depression and anxiety, the twins that make mental health elusive for millions. Your depression and anxiety is exacerbated by your seriousness – taking yourself too seriously. As we move into adulthood, we unfortunately buy into the notion that responsible and productive people must be “serious.” As we make the biggest mistake of our lives and relegate our humor nature and fun to recreational activities (if we experience fun at all), we doom ourselves to all the symptoms of the corresponding seriousness that fills the void – declining health, rising stress, increased pain, lessened energy, impaired creativity, and more.

The good news for your mental health, however, is that we know how to shrink your deadly seriousness to practically nothing and reduce almost completely the sway it holds over your health, vitality, wellness, and zest. The natural medicine of humor is an incredibly powerful resource that you already possess; you’ve only forgotten how to use it to maximum effectiveness. You will soon discover that, while not a panacea, the natural medicine of humor is a tremendous tonic for depression or anxiety and will also supercharge other treatments because it is an amazing adjunctive medicine too!

I have distilled the natural medicine of humor, through my years of medical practice, into an amazing prescription I call The Fun Factor. Based on what I learned over twenty years ago from a terminally ill fifteen-year-old patient, I created a unique set of principles I call the Fun Commandments, then forged these Commandments into my Fun Factor prescription and have been prescribing The Fun Factor with great success for years. This report will show you how to use just three of my Fun Commandments to turn your mental health around, and gain new joy, pleasure, and appreciation from your life!

Improve Your Mental Health Using My Fun Factor Prescription

Step One: Always Go the Extra Smile

The first Fun Commandment I recommend for improved mental health is: Always Go the Extra Smile. This Commandment is doubly helpfully for depression and anxiety because not only does it provide measurable emotional and physical relief, but it also is completely under your control – regardless of your circumstances. Because smiling remains totally under your control, it can be your greatest resource for using humor’s natural medicine to accelerate your mental health.

Smiling produces measurable physical benefits you can experience immediately: your stress decreases, your immunity improves, your pain and frustration tolerances increase, and your creativity soars. And guess what? You experience all these benefits even if your smile is “fake.” That’s right…forcing a smile onto your face perks up your immune system and lightens your mood just as readily as a genuine smile. Fake a smile and you’ll soon feel well enough to wear a real one!

This is great news for your proactive stance on sustainable mental health. You have an amazing amount of pre-emptive control over your mood – you can, literally, choose more energy and happiness. The key for your use of this Fun Commandment in enhancing your mental health is to start practicing right now, so that smiling becomes an entrenched, habitual method of accessing the natural medicine of humor. If you wait to smile until your mental health has taken a turn for the worse, and depression or anxiety has taken hold of you, it will not be as effective.

Step Two: Act and Interact

Smiling leads us right into the second Fun Commandment you’ll find instrumental in maintaining your mental health: Act and Interact. Humor’s natural medicine works best when we are sharing ourselves and this Commandment will teach you how to capitalize on the control you’ve taken over your physiology and mood by smiling. Acting and interacting is now easier for you to do because you’re smiling more. Not only is your mood improved, but your smile is also a pleasant invitation to other people.

My suggestion is that you solidify the power of this Commandment by setting a reasonable goal regarding the number of people you will interact with each day. These social interactions are great for your mental health, forcing you to exchange information and ideas with another person. Combined with your commitment to smiling, your interactions should be pleasant, because your heightened energy, lessened pain, and lowered stress levels are very attractive to others.

Beyond keeping you out of isolation, there is another reason why acting and interacting with the people you encounter fosters improved mental health. It allows you to avoid spiritual “flat tires.” Spiritual flat tires occur when you sidestep, or avoid, an interaction that is about to happen naturally – you duck into an office to avoid encountering someone in a hallway or you don’t answer the phone because you don’t want to talk to the person calling. This type of avoidance drains and deletes your reservoir of powerful natural energy and siphons your mental health reserves.

Have you ever noticed that it usually takes you twice as much mental and physical energy to avoid doing a job than you would have expended just doing it? It also takes twice the energy to avoid acting and interacting with the people who cross your path because you are, in effect, saying, “I’m going to correct the mistake that nature made by putting this person in my path and I’m going to correct it by being mentally and spiritually negligent.” Mental and spiritual negligence have the same effect as physical negligence (isn’t it strange how you get tired if you don’t exercise?). If your mental health can afford to allow this much energy to be drained, then you have a much bigger reservoir than I!

But spiritual flat tires do more than drain our energy, they are detrimental in at least two additional ways:

We miss out on an interaction with a teacher. If nature didn’t have a lesson for you, that person you just avoided would not have been placed in your path. You say that the person you just avoided was a negative influence or would’ve wasted your time? I know we have legitimate schedules to keep, but if I am avoiding people based on my prejudgment of them, I’m cutting myself off from my greatest teachers – those very same people.
We all learn tolerance from the intolerant, patience from the impatient, temperance from the intemperate, gentleness from the ruffian, etc. I am supremely grateful for those teachers and the lessons they give me.

We create a small, nagging spiritual void of dishonesty, the kind of dishonesty that keeps us from laying our heads down with complete peace of mind each night. Our spiritual flat tire is caused by the pothole our avoidance created; it is a natural consequence, or symptom, of our spiritual dishonesty. These consequences clutter our lives with mental and emotional baggage that further drains us of our energy and vitality.

Step Three: Celebrate Everything

The third Fun Commandment which will help you use the natural medicine of humor to charge up your mental health is: Celebrate Everything. Celebrating everything may sound like a monumental task to someone who’s mental health isn’t up to par, but you will find this part of my doctor’s orders much easier to fulfill once you start practicing my first two Commandments. In fact, celebrating everything is more than a maintenance step providing sustainable mental health. It will also become your lifestyle, the more you practice it, because you will enjoy the results so much.

How do you celebrate everything and how will this keep your mental health on the upswing? The epitome of this Commandment is found in the old joke about the boy who wanted a pony for his birthday. Instead, he found a room full of manure waiting for him. But he dove right into the dung, gleefully exclaiming, “With all this manure, there’s got to be a pony in here somewhere!”

Laugh as we might, we’re quick to remember that, as adults, we would never allow ourselves such “naive” enthusiasm. Why not? Do you realize what is behind such a “grown up,” “mature” decision? Your deadly seriousness (taking yourself too seriously) encourages the attitude that a mature adult should not let herself be so optimistic and thus mental health is jeopardized.

We could do more than chuckle at this birthday boy’s unabashed optimism – we should emulate it! When was the last time you encountered an unexpected pile of manure in your life? You had absolutely no control over the mess, right? But you had absolute control over your reaction to it and this is the key to using celebration to keep your mental health improved!

When you celebrate everything, the natural medicine of humor creates spiritual, emotional, and mental health like nothing you’ve felt before. You will find that your fears become much less controlling when you are celebrating everything because it no longer matters so much how things turn out. In fact, you are literally ready for anything because you are prepared to find the blessing in whatever happens.

My daughter-in-law, for example, broke her back last year. My son, who is often my model for the embodiment of my Fun Commandments, can tick off a laundry list of blessings his family has received as a direct result of his wife’s “tragedy.” Not that his mental health hasn’t been challenged, but faced with the choice of depression and anxiety over an event he couldn’t control versus finding the blessings waiting for him, he has chosen the latter.

The choice to celebrate everything is not a panacea; my son’s choice did not change the reality of his wife’s injury. What did change, however, was his ability to respond to the injury and, thus, keep his mental health on an even keel. Celebrating everything changes our lives because it allows us to positively control the only things we have control over – our actions, ideas, and attitudes.

There you have it. Start by going the extra smile, use your newfound smiling energy and vitality to act and interact with people, and celebrate everything to maintain your positive momentum. Say good-bye to imprisonment from depression and anxiety and welcome to your new world of improved mental health!

Shoe Repairs And Several Other Things When I Was 7

Shoe Repairs And Several Other Things When I Was 7
My Dad repaired most of our shoes believe it or not, I can hardly believe it myself now. With 7 pairs of shoes always needing repairs I think he was quite clever to learn how to “Keep us in shoe Leather” to coin a phrase!

He bought several different sizes of cast iron cobbler’s “lasts”. Last, the old English “Laest” meaning footprint. Lasts were holding devices shaped like a human foot. I have no idea where he would have bought the shoe leather. Only that it was a beautiful creamy, shiny colour and the smell was lovely.

But I do remember our shoes turned upside down on and fitted into these lasts, my Dad cutting the leather around the shape of the shoe, and then hammering nails, into the leather shape. Sometimes we’d feel one or 2 of those nails poking through the insides of our shoes, but our dad always fixed it.

Hiking and Swimming Galas
Dad was a very outdoorsy type, unlike my mother, who was probably too busy indoors. She also enjoyed the peace and quiet when he took us off for the day!

Anyway, he often took us hiking in the mountains where we’d have a picnic of sandwiches and flasks of tea. And more often than not we went by steam train.

We loved poking our heads out of the window until our eyes hurt like mad from a blast of soot blowing back from the engine. But sore, bloodshot eyes never dampened our enthusiasm.

Dad was an avid swimmer and water polo player, and he used to take us to swimming galas, as they were called back then. He often took part in these galas. And again we always travelled by steam train.

Rowing Over To Ireland’s Eye
That’s what we did back then, we had to go by rowboat, the only way to get to Ireland’s eye, which is 15 minutes from mainland Howth. From there we could see Malahide, Lambay Island and Howth Head of course. These days you can take a Round Trip Cruise on a small cruise ship!

But we thoroughly enjoyed rowing and once there we couldn’t wait to climb the rocks, and have a swim. We picnicked and watched the friendly seals doing their thing and showing off.

Not to mention all kinds of birdlife including the Puffin. The Martello Tower was also interesting but a bit dangerous to attempt entering. I’m getting lost in the past as I write, and have to drag myself back to the present.

Fun Outings with The camera Club
Dad was also a very keen amateur photographer, and was a member of a camera Club. There were many Sunday photography outings and along with us came other kids of the members of the club.

And we always had great fun while the adults busied themselves taking photos of everything and anything, it seemed to us. Dad was so serious about his photography that he set up a dark room where he developed and printed his photographs.

All black and white at the time. He and his camera club entered many of their favourites in exhibitions throughout Europe. I’m quite proud to say that many cups and medals were won by Dad. They have been shared amongst all his grandchildren which I find quite special.

He liked taking portraits of us kids too, mostly when we were in a state of untidiness, usually during play. Dad always preferred the natural look of messy hair and clothes in the photos of his children.

What Are The Greatest Changes In Shopping In Your Lifetime

What are the greatest changes in shopping in your lifetime? So asked my 9 year old grandson.

As I thought of the question the local Green Grocer came to mind. Because that is what the greatest change in shopping in my lifetime is.

That was the first place to start with the question of what are the greatest changes in shopping in your lifetime.

Our local green grocer was the most important change in shopping in my lifetime. Beside him was our butcher, a hairdresser and a chemist.

Looking back, we were well catered for as we had quite a few in our suburb. And yes, the greatest changes in shopping in my lifetime were with the small family owned businesses.

Entertainment While Shopping Has Changed
Buying butter was an entertainment in itself.
My sister and I often had to go to a favourite family grocer close by. We were always polite as we asked for a pound or two of butter and other small items.

Out came a big block of wet butter wrapped in grease-proof paper. Brought from the back of the shop, placed on a huge counter top and included two grooved pates.

That was a big change in our shopping in my lifetime… you don’t come across butter bashing nowadays.

Our old friendly Mr. Mahon with the moustache, would cut a square of butter. Lift it to another piece of greaseproof paper with his pates. On it went to the weighing scales, a bit sliced off or added here and there.

Our old grocer would then bash it with gusto, turning it over and over. Upside down and sideways it went, so that it had grooves from the pates, splashes going everywhere, including our faces.

My sister and I thought this was great fun and it always cracked us up. We loved it, as we loved Mahon’s, on the corner, our very favourite grocery shop.

Grocery Shopping
Further afield, we often had to go to another of my mother’s favourite, not so local, green grocer’s. Mr. McKessie, ( spelt phonetically) would take our list, gather the groceries and put them all in a big cardboard box.

And because we were good customers he always delivered them to our house free of charge. But he wasn’t nearly as much fun as old Mr. Mahon. Even so, he was a nice man.

All Things Fresh
So there were very many common services such as home deliveries like:

• Farm eggs

• Fresh vegetables

• Cow’s milk

• Freshly baked bread

• Coal for our open fires

Delivery Services
A man used to come to our house a couple of times a week with farm fresh eggs.

Another used to come every day with fresh vegetables, although my father loved growing his own.

Our milk, topped with beautiful cream, was delivered to our doorstep every single morning.

Unbelievably, come think of it now, our bread came to us in a huge van driven by our “bread-man” named Jerry who became a family friend.

My parents always invited Jerry and his wife to their parties, and there were many during the summer months. Kids and adults all thoroughly enjoyed these times. Alcohol was never included, my parents were teetotallers. Lemonade was a treat, with home made sandwiches and cakes.

The coal-man was another who delivered bags of coal for our open fires. I can still see his sooty face under his tweed cap but I can’t remember his name. We knew them all by name but most of them escape me now.

Mr. Higgins, a service man from the Hoover Company always came to our house to replace our old vacuum cleaner with an updated model.

Our insurance company even sent a man to collect the weekly premium.

People then only paid for their shopping with cash. This in itself has been a huge change in shopping in my lifetime.

In some department stores there was a system whereby the money from the cash registers was transported in a small cylinder on a moving wire track to the central office.

Some Of The Bigger Changes
Some of the bigger changes in shopping were the opening of supermarkets.

• Supermarkets replaced many individual smaller grocery shops. Cash and bank cheques have given way to credit and key cards.

• Internet shopping… the latest trend, but in many minds, doing more harm, to book shops.

• Not many written shopping lists, because mobile phones have taken over.

On a more optimistic note, I hear that book shops are popular again after a decline.

Personal Service Has Most Definitely Changed
So, no one really has to leave home, to purchase almost anything, technology makes it so easy to do online.
And we have a much bigger range of products now, to choose from, and credit cards have given us the greatest ease of payment.

We have longer shopping hours, and weekend shopping. But we have lost the personal service that we oldies had taken for granted and also appreciated.

Because of their frenetic lifestyles, I have heard people say they find shopping very stressful, that is grocery shopping. I’m sure it is when you have to dash home and cook dinner after a days work. I often think there has to be a better, less stressful way.

My mother had the best of both worlds, in the services she had at her disposal. With a full time job looking after 9 people, 7 children plus her and my dad, she was very lucky. Lucky too that she did not have 2 jobs.

What We Have Here Is A Failure To Communicate

The results of this past election proved once again that the Democrats had a golden opportunity to capitalize on the failings of the Trump Presidency but, fell short of a nation wide mandate. A mandate to seize the gauntlet of the progressive movement that Senator Sanders through down a little over four years ago. The opportunities were there from the very beginning even before this pandemic struck. In their failing to educate the public of the consequences of continued Congressional gridlock, conservatism, and what National Economic Reform’s Ten Articles of Confederation would do led to the results that are playing out today.. More Congressional gridlock, more conservatism and more suffering of millions of Americans are the direct consequences of the Democrats failure to communicate and educate the public. Educate the public that a progressive agenda is necessary to pull the United States out of this Pandemic, and restore this nations health and vitality.

It was the DNC’s intent in this election to only focus on the Trump Administration. They failed to grasp the urgency of the times. They also failed to communicate with the public about the dire conditions millions have been and still are facing even before the Pandemic. The billions of dollars funneled into campaign coffers should have been used to educate the voting public that creating a unified coalition would bring sweeping reforms that are so desperately needed. The reality of what transpired in a year and a half of political campaigning those billions of dollars only created more animosity and division polarizing one extreme over another.

One can remember back in 1992 Ross Perot used his own funds to go on national TV to educate the public on the dire ramifications of not addressing our national debt. That same approach should have been used during this election cycle. By using the medium of television to communicate and educate the public is the most effective way in communicating and educating the public. Had the Biden campaign and the DNC used their resources in this way the results we ae seeing today would have not created the potential for more gridlock in our government. The opportunity was there to educate the public of safety protocols during the siege of this pandemic and how National Economic Reform’s Ten Articles of Confederation provides the necessary progressive reforms that will propel the United States out of the abyss of debt and restore our economy. Restoring our economy so that every American will have the means and the availability of financial and economic security.

The failure of the Democratic party since 2016 has been recruiting a Presidential Candidate who many felt was questionable and more conservative signals that the results of today has not met with the desired results the Democratic party wanted. Then again? By not fully communicating and not educating the public on the merits of a unified progressive platform has left the United States transfixed in our greatest divides since the Civil War. This writers support of Senator Bernie Sanders is well documented. Since 2015 he has laid the groundwork for progressive reforms. He also has the foundations on which these reforms can deliver the goods as they say. But, what did the DNC do, they purposely went out of their way to engineer a candidate who was more in tune with the status-quo of the DNC. They failed to communicate to the public in educating all of us on the ways our lives would be better served with a progressive agenda that was the benchmark of Senators Sanders Presidential campaign and his Our Revolution movement. And this is way there is still really no progress in creating a less toxic environment in Washington and around the country.
